New Classic Coca-Cola Life

Gambar
A couple of months ago, I was grocery shopping when I chanced upon this new Coca-Cola soda. The Coca-Cola Life uses cane sugar and stevia as sweeteners. It also boasts that it has 35 percent fewer calories than regular Coke.  The image that they want to project with Coke Life is that it's way better, healthwise, compared to normal Coke. It even comes in a different color packaging --- green. Coke really knows how to stay in the game. It reinvents itself and makes themselves relevant to the trending market. I must say, you can taste and feel the difference. It has a smoother taste and texture. It doesn't have that sugary after taste that stays in your mouth after drinking Coke. You also don't feel bloated after drinking it. It's a bit expensive compared to regular coke. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I feel that whenever I drink Coke Life, it doesn't have that addictive factor. I don't crave for it as much as I want the normal Coke. Cane sugar being used

Tempting Merienda Offerings from Cebu's Laguna Garden Cafe

Gambar
Have you ever wondered what to do on a Sunny and balmy Summer afternoon? What I did is to head over to Laguna Garden Cafe and indulge on enticing afternoon snacks. Laguna Garden Cafe or Cafe Laguna is known for their Merienda offerings. These tempting dishes are embodiments of the way Filipinos love their Merienda food. The restaurants are both located in Ayala Center Cebu and owned by the Urbina family. Which one would you try first? My first visit to the restaurant was during Merienda time. When I perused the menu, I was happy that there were a lot of dishes that I was familiar with since I originally came from Manila. Sometimes, certain foods have their own regional names and taste but Cafe Laguna is almost similar to the Luzon way of preparing dishes. During my first visit, I ordered the Arroz Caldo , which is the Filipino version of rice porridge or congee. The main ingredient is chicken. Every spoonful reminded me of my Dad's version of Arroz Caldo. Fresh Lumpia, Puto Puti,

#RPNonFiction: Martial Law History Lessons in Twitter

Gambar
"Those who don't know History are doomed to repeat it." Twitter is not dead. It is very much alive as shown in the past few days when Filipinos flocked to the micro-blogging site to share their thoughts, experiences, ideas, and opinions on what's happening in the Philippines. It all started with Twitter use,  @Philbertdy. He originally started trending the notorious #RP69FanFic which invited Twitter users to create their own stories about the Presidentials' and Vice Presidentials' sons in raunchy scenarios. A few days later, amidst the political drama surrounding the still contested Vice-Presidential race, as well as Millennials not knowing what Martial Law was, he invited Twitter users to talk about the years of the Marcos regime. Thus, #RPNonFiction started and caught fire with Twitter users. Reading the stories, facts, experiences, and recollections of so many Filipinos, gave me goosebumps. I might have been a child during the last decade of the Marcos r

Reconstructed Bell Tower of Basilica Del Santo Nino Cebu

Gambar
I was so happy when I recently visited the Basilica Del Santo Nino in Cebu City because the bell tower that was destroyed by the 2013 Earthquake has now been completely rebuilt. The Basilica Minore del Santo Nino was established by the Augustinians in 1565 when Miguel Lopez de Legazpi landed in Cebu. Making it the oldest church in the oldest city in the Philippines. Over the course of the centuries, the church has been built, destroyed, and rebuilt again. The main structure was built during the 1740s. The Basilica is considered as a National Heritage and Landmark. It especially houses the centuries-old and miraculous image of the Little Child Jesus. The little statue's origin dates back to the late 1400s when Spanish soldiers coming back from the Netherlands, brought this Flemish-made image and popularized it's veneration in Spain.  The reconstruction was not limited to the Belfry. The rest of the outer appearance of the church has been cleaned up as well. The original church
