A Cebu Foodie and Mang Larry's Isawan

Gambar
If you ask any alumni or student of the University of the Philippines - Diliman Campus, they all know Mang Larry's Isawan. A Cebu Foodie needs to experience Mang Larry's Isawan when one visits Metro Manila. It's a foodie destination that you shouldn't miss. I'm not really a fan of Isaw (chicken or pork intestines) but when you get to taste Mang Larry's, you will be a convert. The best parts are the tastiest Filipinos love eating street food. It's fast food, yummy and affordable. And everyone has a favorite or two.  We, Filipinos believe in the saying, "waste not, want not". We don't waste any chicken  or pork part. We use and cook all of their body parts. From humble beginnings, Mang Larry's now have several branches in Quezon City.  This iconic food stall has even been immortalized by Manix Abrera in his comic strip, KikoMachine. In a span of two days, I was able to buy my share of Isaw and other barbecued innards in two different Mang Lar

9 Dishes to try when Tim Ho Wan opens in Cebu

Gambar
The first Tim Ho Wan restaurant that opened in Manila was located in SM Megamall. It was in 2014, that Filipinos were able to try the dishes of this popular Hong Kong restaurant.  I am hoping that Tim Ho Wan will finally open it's SM Seaside branch before the Sinulog Festival in January. Cebuanos are fans of good quality and affordable Chinese food.  Tim Ho Wan Favorites In the past week, I've eaten twice in Tim Ho Wan while enjoying the Holidays in Manila. That's how I'm addicted to it's food menu. I've tried most of their popular dishes and I keep wanting more and more ---- especially the pork buns! Unfortunately, when you order the dumplings or dim sum, they don't serve calamansi or chili oil. They only use the spices that they have in the original Hong Kong store. The prices per dish averages about 140php to 200php. It's a little on the high side compared to local Cebu Chinese restaurants but it's less oily and greasey plus the flavor is quite ta

Magic Wand, GMA Christmas 2016 Finale of Magic ng Pasko

Gambar
A cute young boy (who looks a little like Harry Potter) discovers a Magic Wand in his room. He puts a spell on his toys which multiplies in quantity. What he does with them would melt your heart. In the finale of GMA Network's Christmas 2016 Station ID, Magic Wand tells the story of giving. This innovative 3D Animation presented by GMA is far different from past Holiday Station IDs. The young magician happily turns his toys into gifts for other kids to enjoy. He shares them without any intention of getting something in return. Christmas is really the season of giving and spreading love. It doesn't feature celebrities or TV personalities singing or dancing. It focuses on the core messages that this Holiday brings. It talks about family, being altruistic, happiness and love. Easter Eggs Part three of Magic ng Pasko is also full of easter eggs (an easter egg is a videogame phrase that pertains to a hidden surprise). There are about a minimum of 4 easter eggs that would make you wa

12 Classic Pinoy Hugot and Pick-up lines that are so corny

Gambar
Ah, love. You win some, you lose some. It's a neverending quest to find that person to spend your lifetime with.  What is Hugot? It's a Filipino word that means pull out or drawn out. But recently, Hugot became a catchphrase for something that is deeply emotional especially love. It can be triggered by a song, a word, an action or a movie.  Hugot lines have been in vogue even decades ago. It's just that people didn't know how to collectively say it. Pick-up lines are akin to Hugot lines. It's a conversation starter that has a twist of humor in it. It's normally used when you want to get the attention of your crush or someone that you find attractive. While going through my photos, I remembered some hugot and pick-up lines. I also thought of some new ones as well. They're so corny that they may actually work.  My apologies if there are a lot of food references. I was hungry when I was doing this blog post. Words are powerful tools to express oneself. Words ar
