Looking for Clues: An Art Mystery at Waterfront Hotel Cebu

Gambar
I always liked a good mystery especially if it involves the Art world. I've watched documentaries about stolen Art, forgeries and even stories behind the paintings. And I never thought I would end up with a mystery on my hands. The Art of the Lobby Lounge One February afternoon, I was invited to a French High Tea event hosted by the Lobby Lounge. As I was enjoying the French pastries, my eyes wandered up towards the ceiling mural. It wasn't the first time I've seen the painting but that afternoon something about it piqued my interest. I started looking for clues. I've been to Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City several times over the years. They've hosted concerts and parties that I have attended. I've been a hotel guest and stayed in their rooms. I've tried some of its restaurants. I even tried my luck at the casino. But what would resonate with the guests is the hotel's castle-like structure. Since it opened in 1998, the hotel has been part of the City skyli

Anyone who grew up south of the equator should be prepared when traveling to a place that boasts of temperatures lower than 14°C, layering is the key. Gambar
The iconic and endearing characters of the comic strip, Peanuts, created by Charles Schultz will be brought to the stage by Vaudeville Theatre Company and Create Cebu from February 17-19 at SM City Cebu. The 1967 musical comedy, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown was created by Clark Gesner and was originally staged off-Broadway. It has become a symbol of childhood memories and innocence. I remember watching this musical when I was younger and singing along with the Peanuts Gang.  If you're part of the Baby Boomer generation or Generation X, you'll be able to recognize and relate to Charlie Brown, Sally Brown, Lucy and Linus Van Pelt, Schroeder, Marcie and Peppermint Patty. And who can forget about Snoopy and his bestfriend Woodstock. The musical can be best described as A Day in the Life of Charlie Brown. It's a rollercoaster kinda day for our protagonist as he goes through his daily routine.  Charlie Brown's journey of finding what it means to be a "good man&qu

"There is no sincerer love than the love of food." Filipinos love their buffets. Nowadays, you see families and friends celebrate special occasions by having buffet parties. There has been a growing number of restaurants and hotels specializing in buffet spreads. The grander, the better. Majority of Filipinos have Chinese heritage. It's ingrained in our culture, food, and the society as a whole. A few years ago, we officially started recognizing the first day of the Lunar New Year as a Holiday.  Lion Dance for luck The Chinese Lunar New Year is celebrated either in January or February. This year of the Fire Rooster, January 28 was marked as the day of the celebrations. Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City has been honoring this Holiday every year. They commemorate it during the eve. For this year, January 27 was filled with dragon dances, lion dances, Wushu performances, noodle-sharing and fireworks display. They never falter in ushering another year of prosperity, happiness, and health. Cebu Waterfront never fail to impress their guests. I was lucky to be invited to this year's celebration. One thing that was a surprise for me was when they unveiled the biggest serving of pancit or chow mein noodles. It's a staple for Filipino and Chinese families espe

5 TV Shows about Royalty that you should binge-watch

Gambar
It has been more than a hundred years since the Philippines had Royalty reign in our society. Except for our Muslim brethren in Mindanao who still practices their own kind of Sultanate Royalty. Majority of Filipinos have grown up amidst a Republican government. Which one would you watch first? But it shouldn't stop us from enjoying these shows that feature the going-ons of those in the Royal circles. Some of these TV shows can be streamed in iflix or Netflix. I've been fascinated by the British Monarchy since I first read a children's book about Oliver Cromwell. And I can probably spout British Royalty trivia more than most Filipinos. These 5 TV shows feature British kings, queens, princes and princesses. Some are based on fictional novels inspired by real historical figures. One nice thing about watching these shows is that it will pique your interest in knowing about the real people behind the characters. 1. The White Queen (2011) This 10 episode miniseries shown in 2011
