15 Homegrown Cebu Food Places Worth A Visit

In this article, there is no mention of Lechon nor pusó nor Utan Bisaya. But it doesn't mean that the various food on this list are not Cebuano.  In recent years, we've seen entrepreneurs create, make, build meccas where good food play an important role.

Cebuanos are known for being selective with discriminating tastes and an eye for great deals. Not a lot of folks know that they are also open to new flavors and ideas.

These 15 homegrown Cebu food places are just a drop in the bucket in a long list of restaurants. I might come up with another list to show more Cebuano restaurants. The food business is a thriving inspiration for budding chefs, foodies, and restaurateurs.

To help you decide on what your next food adventure will be in Cebu, let my Funko Pop buddies guide you.

1. Red Lizard Taqueria

Introducing Red Lizard Taqueria by the Abaca Group. It's a Mexican-inspired taqueria serving quick and fast taquitos, nachos, burritos, tacos and margaritas. The place is great for casual diners.

Think of this place as a more laid-back and affordable Maya restaurant. It's another successful restaurant for the Abaca Group which also owns Beqaa, Luncheonette, Tavolata, Phat Pho and Abaca Baking Company.

3. Ramen Dojo

My friend and I were eating in Rame Dojo when there was a Japanese diner who was at the table next to ours. We could hear him slurping his Ramen; I couldn't resist not asking him what his opinion of the Ramen. What he said was that Ramen Dojo is good Japanese street Ramen. And that review was good enough to be included in my Black Book of Food.

Aside from their Ramen options, they also offer Yakisoba, Gyoza, and Chicken Teriyaki.

5. Sachi Authentic Japanese

6. 10 Dove Street Confectionery

This is the original rustic and cozy place for folks to enjoy their desserts. They also have hot meals lile sandwiches, fried chicken, roasted pork, pasta, and other yummy choices.

I always end up ordering something new and different every visit that I make in 10 Dove Street.

7. Tablea Chocolate Cafe

Filipinos are known to have a sweet tooth or two. We like sugary food so much that even bitter dark chocolate drinks are dashed with milk and sugar. Traditional Filipino breakfast would entail a hot dark chocolate drink for sipping or dipping. Tablea has continued that tradition with their Sipping Dark Chocolate it has that subtleness in flavor of sugar and milk. Aside for the different kinds of chocolate drinks, they also offer the Puto, Manga, Tsokolate plate which I always order.

Batirol is the new concept store by The Chocolate Chamber which is known for its specialty chocolates. 11. KKD STK + BBQ

What to do after a long day of visiting the historic sites of Cebu City? Food crawl! KKD STK+BBQ is situated right across Plaza Independencia and Malacanan sa Sugbo. They offer Filipino classic dishes with their own flavor.

I ate a lot of their homemade chicharron and I don't feel guilty at all! I followed it with a glass of Avocado shake. Their crispy pata is a recommended dish as well. I especially like their version of leche flan which has a citrus flavor plus it has mango slices as topping.

The concept of Pizza Republic is that you can create your own pie by choosing your toppings. They have a variety of ingredients on hand. You can even add an egg on top of your pizza. And then they bake the pie in their brick-walled gas oven. Their pizza style is more Italian than American since the owner is an Italian by the name of Guiseppe Genco.

13. Tazza Cafe and Patisserie

What attracted me to Tazza Cafe was their Affogato. But their hot meals made me comeback for more. I have ordered their Double Pork Chops and Beef Stroganoff. Their cakes and pastries are tastes good as well.

14. Fudge and Lava by Fudge

How would I describe Fudge? Their dishes are not your typical Filipino fare. While I was dining on their mouthwatering food, I keep thinking about American Southern cooking. Fudge has the components of being the new American-style soul food with a Filipino twist.

The choco chip pizookie and molten lava cake are foodie favorites.

As an avid reader, I normally look for places where I can read my books while drinking either hot or cold drinks.

They also have short orders for those who would like to eat as well.
